Its smart processing is the key to affordable, clean and sustainable BIOENERGY. The massive increase of renewable energies is a declared objective of European politics. Thereby, fostering the utilization of bioenergy is considered as a key to an energy turnaround and the reduction of climate-damaging CO2 emissions. The Lifelong Learning project Q-BICON (Competences for tomorrows energies: A Qualification scheme for BIomass CONsultancy) supports this by creating and providing an innovative training course for professionals working in the field of BIOENERGY.

Q-BICON follows up the previous EU-project COACH BioEnergy, that identified a lack of specific bioenergy expertise on the levels of multipliers and decision-makers in economy and administration, causing a bottleneck for the EU-wide growth of the bioenergy sector.

Q-BICON targets at the development of a qualification framework for a vocational training to become a bioenergy consultant. Q-BICON involves expert institutions and training providers from Austria, Germany, Hungary and Poland.

What are the Q-BICON main goals?

detailed demand analysis for the partner countries

blended learning curriculum following latest teaching methods

elaboration of state of the art teaching contents and materials

test of the new training in an open and free-of-charge pilot course certified according ISO 17024

As EU sets goals to significantly increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in Europe, state governments set up initiatives to utilize local RES in sustainable way. Especially in countries with a strong agricultural sector huge potentials for growing energy crops and using agricultural residues exists. The utilization of local biomass potentials will increase the profitability of the agricultural sector, while the usage of organic wastes needs to be widely considered for future energy production.

With a share of 64% biomass is the major renewable energy source in Europe today, but the implementation of local bioenergy actions requires highly specialized consultancy in all relevant sectors and disciplines.

Still biomass potentials are not sufficiently used or sustainability aspects are neglected. An important reason for this is a lack of qualification and specific vocational trainings, especially for consultants and multipliers. So, agricultural consultants lack knowledge of planning, meanwhile consultants from planning disciplines lack knowledge of biomass production in a sustainable manner. On the level of administrations, but also in industry and planning relevant organisations often there are just insufficient consultancy services.

As the EU-project COACH BioEnergy identified, there is a lack of suitable trainings going beyond the scope of a general knowledge on renewable energies and that facilitate deep and specific competences in the field of bioenergy. Also relevant aspects as sustainability assessment of local bioenergy actions or improvement of knowledge transfer and communication skills are not adequately taken into consideration today.

The Q-BICON training addresses especially consultants, multipliers and skilled employees from public and private sector, as well as NGOs. Potential participants work in the following fields in particular:

Waste disposal, technical and building services

Agriculture and forestry

Spatial planning and architecture

Energy providers and municipal utilities

Organizations and associations related to (bio)energy

Source: http://q-bicon.eu/

BIOMASS is one of the most important and promising renewable energy sources.
